How To Paint An Ocean Wave

About this tutorial

Difficulty: Beginner/Intermediate
Panel Size: 13 x 13

Those of you that follow me on YouTube may know that I’ve painted a similar picture to this before, in fact, it’s been one of my most popular videos. Because of its popularity or perhaps because it’s an unusual one for me, I’ve had an awful lot of viewers ask for a more in-depth tutorial on it. To me, this wave shares all of the attractive qualities of the YouTube version with its smooth sand, its crashing wave and the contrast between the horizon line and sky. With fine brush strokes and a modicum of patience this subject matter is perfect for all levels of artist. I hope you enjoy this tutorial, I certainly enjoyed filming it!
