How do you start your oil paintings?

I start my paintings by doing a graphite pencil sketch lightly on the panel. If I am doing a complex subject I will use the grid method to be sure that things are in their proper place. I use acrylic to do a colour, no detail, block-in to cover the white of the canvas and to try for correct values or tones. The acrylic dries very quickly, which allows me to move on to the details in oils and finish the painting. All these steps are explained and demonstrated in full with each tutorial in my Online Art School.
